Mark 10:45
As Christians, one of our highest callings is to serve others. We are given many examples throughout Scripture of the expectations placed on us to show the love of Christ to our neighbor.
Jesus said, "for I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you visited Me, I was in prison and you came to Me."
[Matthew 25:35-36]
At The Mission, our hope is not only that we are able to provide these services to those in need, but also to enable others in the community to have an outlet that allows them to fulfill their own individual calling to serve.
The Mission is a Christ-centered outreach ministry that began in 2011 as a weekly meal and meeting for those struggling with addictions or navigating recovery from drugs or alcohol. The meetings slowly grew to obtain a more broad focus, attempting to provide support for anyone facing a hardship in their life or looking to add accountability into their walk. This led to the development of the Pregnancy & Parenting Ministry in the spring of 2019, followed by the launch of the Youth Enrichment Program in the fall.
The focus of The Mission has always been to assist the folks in Sneedville and Hancock County in any way possible. This has been done through many different outreach projects throughout the years, but the primary goal of each effort is to encourage those in the community to seek a more personal, eternal relationship with Jesus Christ, because it is only by Him that we are truly healed of our hurts or addictions.
All of the programs and ministries at The Mission have been birthed from a desire to see the community free from the grips of addiction and other spiritual bondage. Throughout the entire ministry, each project has been created with the end goal of fostering relationships that encourage recovery, accountability, and discipleship.
All too often, we meet Christians in our community who are eager to serve, but seem to have no idea where to start. We want to provide opportunities for anyone who wants to find a way to pour back into their community. Whether that's serving a meal on a Thursday, giving their testimony at a meeting, delivering food boxes during the summer, or any number of other activities, there's something for every willing volunteer at The Mission.
